Have you checked out the #readforgood Readathon over at MemeTales and PBS - the idea is to keep kids reading through the Summer months, especially to avoid the dread 'Summer Slide'.
If you've not checked out MemeTales before it is an online platform to find great independent books for kids and an e-book reader you can use on your phone, laptop or tablet. Kids can collect points, 'stickers' and unlock games for every book they read. Sign-Up is free and every week throughout the Readathon the featured books will be available to download for free too! A whole Summer of reading straight to your account! Plus there are plenty of bloggers participating so check back and see what they're reading and the activities they're playing along with their books!
If you want to find out more you can find MemeTales on Twitter, or search the hashtag #readforgood, follow on facebook and pinterest.
This week's theme is Animal Fun - you can check out the featured books here. We picked Five Little Ducklings which has always been one of Vinnie's favourite nursery rhymes. I decided to make some simple finger puppets to go along with the story.
I used a rubber glove and cut the fingers off to make the body of our birds, some googly eyes and a teeny orange sticker for a beak. Told you it was simple!
The Readathon starts today so check out the details, check out this week's books and have fun with your reading!
Disclaimer - I did not receive any reward for this post - this is something I support and encourage you to sign up because it's ace! I am a writer for the Memetales Blog, you can check out my first post with them on 4th July.
