Explore Favourite Nursery Rhymes using props and toys for creative re-telling and imaginative play.
You guys know we love to turn storytime into playtime, this week I was inspired by some favourite nursery rhymes. I love the idea of story bags, full of props to bring a book to life, so I set about to find some toys and puppets to explore with.
I made this little Incy Wincy with black card, wool and googly eyes - he also features in 'Little Miss Muffet' and 'There was an old lady who swallowed a fly'
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
A Speckled Frog sat on a TP Tube Speckled Log
a Hickory Dickory Clock
'She Sells Sea Shells', a 'Little Dickie Bird' and ('Sing a Song Of) Sixpence'
'Chick chick chick chick chicken...'
'Ba Ba Black Sheep' and 'I'm a Little Teapot' (or 'Polly put the Kettle On')
'Humpty Dumpty' and his wall
Fishy Finger Puppet for '1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (Once I Caught a Fish Alive), one of our Three Pigs Puppets for 'This Little Piggy' and a 'Little Peter Rabbit with a fly upon his nose' from our Peter Rabbit Small World
A somewhat spooky looking chick chicken had a lot of fun playing around with our props - it's so cute hearing his little versions as he remembers the words and some of the actions.
This Little Piggy needed some babytoe action right?
It's so easy to add a little extra fun to your favourite rhymes - all this was put together in one morning with only stuff I already had at home. Here's some more inspiration for your next rhyme time:
