Demolition Derby Small World

It's been a while since we created a Small World for the kiddos to explore but when I saw a super cute pic of a Demolition Derby using broken crayons and toy cars from My Small Potatoes (one of my new fave blogs by the way - go check them out!) I knew what we would be making next...

I filled the bottom of our tub with some Homemade Moon Sand and flattened it nice and smooth to represent dirt - then off to find some cars to get smashed...

I found one in our cars box that appears to have been stood on, the roof is almost completely flattened and one of the wheels is popping right out - perfect for that ubiquitous upside down, mid-spin totalled wreck of a car...

Don't worry though, Mater the tow truck is on stand-by to pull out the wrecks!

As you can imagine, this playtime got messy! But that's kind of what sensory play is all about huh?

I used sand in this tub, but some soil, brown playdough or smashed crayons like Small Potatoes did -

Let me tell you, no little boy can resist an open invitation to smash up his cars and make a mess!!
