Textured Salt Paintings - a Playfail Post

Do you ever totally complicate your kiddo's playtime? This weekend Vinnie wanted to do some painting - I set out his brushes and paints and some paper, then I thought we could try adding some texture to the paint and have a little experiment. I set out some cups of dried Rice Krispies, cous cous, salt and rice and showed him how to mix them with the paints...

...which lasted about five seconds - usually painting sessions in our house are hour long affairs with several metres of butcher paper covered and every body part getting involved!

The paint ended up here...

...and the salt ended up here...

...ah, ok. Salt is not for painting, salt is for running through. Message recieved son.

In the end I chucked all the dried items into a tub, handed him some cardboard tubes and a couple of dinosaurs and he played for the *longest* time burying, scooping and shovelling away.

It's always the same when you start off with good intentions right... your kids didn't get that memo?

  1. Oh no!!!! I don't know if I'd want to laugh or cry!

Maybe you could just congratulate yourself on having a creative child who thinks outside the box.....preferably with a glass of wine in your hand. :)
