Last week we took a trip up to Birmingham to visit my family. Vin loves riding trains and tubes normally, but this was going to be a train journey, two tubes, two hour train journey kind of day so I knew I had to keep him entertained!
I put together a little 'busy bag' of fun stuff to slip into my handbag and slip out at bored moments. I filled it with anything I thought looked fun and could be used in a couple of different ways (had in mind the two hour return journey too!)
We had some tiny toy cars, magnetic letters and a paperclip fishing rod, tongs, cotton reels and a shoelace, drinking straws threaded onto a pipecleaner, bicycle shaped paperclips, felts and pencil crayons and some 'activity cards' I scribbled on a blank greetings card.
We had colour matching, spotting letters (so far Vin is confident with S and A but not 100% with T and P yet!) size sequencing and counting - I tried to make sure all the other contents in the bag could be used with these puzzles, as well as looking for things on the train to use too.
It all fitted nicely into a little pencil case, which was probably the only bit of light packing I did for our one-night trip!
Now that I know Vin can do longer journeys like this and not have a meltdown I think we'll be visiting relatives more often. What would you include in a busy bag for your kids?
