Vin got a new set of Duplo for Christmas, and I've been trying to decide what to do with his old Megabloks. Part of me thinks it's silly having two types of such similar blocks in such a teeny tiny bedroom as his, the Duplo are smaller (so better for fine motor etc) and offer more of a scope for imaginative play. But I also thought I should stash the Megabloks away to change things up when we get bored of playing with one thing.
I decided to give the blocks a bit of a makeover. I have something a little more permanent in mind, to share next week, but in the meantime I thought I'd label some of the blocks to engage in some counting, sorting, sequencing practise.
Sometimes we have a great idea for play, while the kiddos have something else completely in mind... the numbers were totally ignored by Vin in favour of dinosaur building!
I think you could take this in lots of directions, perhaps drawing a picture over a tower of blocks to reassemble like a jigsaw or letters for big kids. What do you think guys, how would you give your old blocks a makeover?
