A Construction Site Small World

CONSTRUCTION SITE SMALL WORLD

Help, my house looks like a building site! Oh wait, it always looks like a building site?
Well, I guess we better play in it then!

BOB THE BUILDER PLAYSET

Vin got this Bob the Builder playset for Christmas - he seems to like it, but I can't help thinking it could do more... you know I'm not about flashy toys and lots of bits of stuff and things, but this set just doesn't really do anything for me. I decided to incorporate it into a Construction Site Small World with lots of sensory elements (and excuses to get messy!)

SENSORY EXPLORATION SMALL WORLD

I didn't plan this at all so everything I included was already at home. I used some of the same ideas from our small-world farm - like these plastic veggie trays to hold the different sensory elements. Here we have a tub of coffee beans (recycled from our Coffee Shop Sensory Tub) for digging around in

BUILDING SITE SENSORY SMALL WORLD

I'm pretty sure D thought I'd lost my mind when I walked into the kitchen muttering 'what can I make cement out of?' I used some of our ocean playdough and mixed it with some poppyseeds for colour and texture.

SMALL WORLD DIGGERS PLAYSET

I cut up some cardboard tubes then taped them together, cut out the middle of an egg box and added some popsicle sticks for planks of wood and other building materials

and a cereal box full of our Homemade Moon Sand and some rocks...

PRESCHOOL CONSTRUCTION SITE PLAY

The cones and wheelbarrow were part of the playset, so I added a few bits of Duplo, some wooden diggers and a couple of plastic people from the toybox and we were all set!

DIGGERS AND DUMPERS SMALL WORLD

as you can see, I can barely take a few photos without someone sneaking up to play...

BUILDING SITE EXPLORATION

And there you have it - a Construction Site Small World in less than an hour with no money spent!

What do you think guys? Anyone have a little digger-fan at home?

  7. Oh my! My little boys would love this! What a great set up! I've only let them play in dried beans with their construction equipment, but coffee beans would be so fun too! You have great ideas!
