Storytime Shadow Puppets - 30 Days Challenge

Today's prompt in the play challenge is from hand on : as we grow - Jamie asks us to spend time acting out a story with our little ones... we chose "Meg's Eggs" from the "Meg and Mog" series since this is the book Vinnie makes me read a hundred and twelve times a day at the moment.

This is an activity I meant to do with the kiddos for Halloween, which is useful because this was also oen of our Halloween books from the library, we had to take it out again because as you can see...

...this book is also about dinosaurs (therefore we love it). I love the simple line drawings in these stories, so I thought they would lend themselves to Shadow Puppets...

I cut out the shapes from balck construction paper and taped them to coffee stirrers (you might have noticed they are my new favourite craft material and until Cafe Nero notice I am nicking all their supplies you might see them popping up more round here!)

Here are Meg and her pets and the giant egg she has conjured for tea...

We learnt about shadow puppets when we went to the museum on our field trip, Vin remembered how they are made with lights and ran off to get his torch!

The kiddos took turns holding the torch and making funny voices for the characters (mostly they just say 'herrow' and kiss each other lots!)

I love this idea to use favourite stories as a prompt for playtime, there are lots of great ideas over on Jamie's post so we will definitely be doing this activity again!

  1. shadow puppets are a great way to re-tell/act out a story and of course create your own stories or alternate endings!

Thanks for linking your idea to the Sunday Showcase last week. Hope to see you this week!

  2. Shadow puppets!!! What an awesome idea. I LOVE these!! What a great activity for a rainy, stormy, gloomy day :) I'd love to invite you to share this at my new linky party, Thrifty Thursday. Come check it out!
