Such a fun activity I am labelling as a Halloween post, because of the snakes and the fact it looks a bit gross. This morning I mixed up a batch of purple jelly and poured it over a bowl of gummy-worms for the kiddos to explore. I actually did this last year in little clear plastic cups as a Halloween dessert, but this year it was purely a sensory playtime inspired by this post.
The kiddos giggled a lot as the gently prodded the surface and we explored the texture and talked about what we could feel 'cold, slimey, squishy etc'. We listened to the slurpy sounds our fingers made moving through the bowl. Then we had a smell and talked about the different smells from the jelly and the little fruity scented worms. Then the kiddos realised it tasted good and they went wild (we used sugar free jelly and Natural Confectionary Comp worms so I don't feel too guilty!). We sang 'Jelly on a Plate' and some little rhymes about snakes while they rolled about in hysterics. So much fun, then off to the bath for some more playtime... I have some lime green jelly too and am on the lookout for some eyeballs or Halloween sweets to explore over the weekend!
